The North Carolina Massage Therapists Network

A private network for all North Carolina Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapists

About the NCMTN

The North Carolina Massage Therapists network on ning.com is a community for Licensed massage therapists in North Carolina.

To join, register and add your license number after your last name: Smith, LMBT #9999. There is no charge.

In North Carolina we don't have a state association of massage therapists. Of the three major massage therapist associations in the US, that I know of, only the AMTA has a North Carolina chapter.

Since I became a massage therapist I've felt there should be ONE North Carolina state association of massage therapists, where all professionals with a LMBT or LMT license can be on common ground, whether they get their insurance through AMTA, or AMBP or IMA. Having several national membership organizations gives us choices, but doesn't give us one common ground for the profession in our state.

If you're not yet familiar with Ning.com networks, take your time. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

This is a tremendous opportunity for us as a profession to share information, questions, resources, and who knows what else.

Gift Certificates

For many of us December is a month for gift certificates. I was happy this year to get requests from out of state as well as locally for gift certificates, for Christmas and for birthdays.

Since my practice is a home based practice, some people are attracted to that and others aren't. One lady called at the last minute to get a gift certificate for a relative, but she wanted it to be a spa like setting. She was going to come by to see, but then never called back.

Did you see your usual amount… Continue

Making it in tough times !!!

I feel very fortunate that my massage practice has done fairly well through these tough times. Whenever I think that though (knock on wood), I am very cautious because who knows how long things are going to go on the way they are. At times it seems likes things are improving but so many people are still out of work and many others are very careful how they spend their money. For some massage therapy is a necessity, many think of it as a luxury.
I am a one person operation and have been working o… Continue

State Boards and Criminal Record Checks

Most state massage boards are now requiring criminal record checks and fingerprints from their applicants; some have been doing it for years, so it’s not exactly news. Some therapists are resentful of this, mainly due to the extra expense, and some view it as unfair, especially if there are other licensed occupations in their states that are not subject to the same rule.

There are a couple of bigger issues here: most of those boards don’t have a procedure in place that would allow a potential m… Continue

Licensed Massage Therapists in North Carolina

This diagram shows that the profession is divided into memberships with the 3 associations for massage therapists (which also provide liability insurance for MTs) and those who aren't members of any association.

The North Carolina Massage Therapists Network creates a common ground - virtual ground - in which members of the four different groups can be part of one community of licensed massage therapists in North Carolina. The purpose is to complement the great work that is done by the different associations, not to replace their work.
